RoomDrop® cabins are usually exempt under Schedule 1 of the Building Act when the relevant conditions are met. Here are the typical checks.
A single-storey detached unit may qualify under Schedule 1 of the Building Act if it is within the relevant exemption size limits and meets the other conditions. It typically needs to be placed at least its own height away from any boundary. The RoomDrop® cabin has 11.5m² of internal space.
The typical exemption conditions include no cooking facilities or plumbing. The cabin has no bathroom, toilet, shower or kitchen sink. Power runs from a plug into a standard outdoor socket.
Whether a consent exemption applies depends on the unit, its use and where it sits on your site.
